The Nature of the Gods
This is next part on series about making a warrior religion for the new age. I’ve been incredibly vague on what gods a warrior religion should worship. It could be one or many. Only a Moses can tell us this. Listen, I’m not your prophet, but I have ideas on what the religion should look like, which brings me to subject of essay. What is the nature of the gods a warrior religion should worship?
I’ve gotten much pushback on the warrior religion series mostly on the subject of the gods. Some have claimed that you cannot make up new gods, you must choose the Christian god. This is shortsighted belief born out of the limp dick conservatism of today. I don’t claim to know the exact form of this new warrior religion, I’ve claimed before that I would get behind new Crusader denomination should someone bring it back to the forefront. The reality most on the conservative right fail to grasp is the warrior religions of old have been abandoned by their modern counterparts. Christians market to the trans community now, neo-Vikings like to claim Odin and Thor hate racists.
What must be understood is that you can’t forge a warrior religion out of the existing conquered religions. Make no mistake, Christianity and paganism are conquered religions. The new faith has dominated them on the world stage. Even Nietzsche saw that “god is dead” in his time. They can return under new denomination and redeem their faiths, but the process in which this happens requires a courage few, if any, among current disciples have. Now I just don’t attack the right in this. The current form of leftism/Marxism has little to do with the communism of the Soviet Union. That religion also, is dead.
A religion is a MEME that mobilizes its people.
Christian men today aren’t motivated by their religion to undertake great tasks. There is article I’ve linked to before from war time pastor lamenting that soldiers were more attracted to Thor than the Christian god. Men are thirsty for a religion that helps them become more of what they are, who they’re meant to be. This religion must be in line with nature. What would the gods be like in this religion? Definitely closer to the god of the Old Testament, who believed in might makes right as he punished Job. The gods of a warrior religion will have a vindictive streak.
No man is really interested in worshipping a god he sees as weak. The triumph of leftism in the modern age is a strike against the old gods. The god or gods that can bring forth a warrior religion that saves whatever is left of our people, who brings them power, and helps them survive the storm is what we’re looking for. A powerful meme that moves a people into action. I’ll use Christianity once more. The first Roman emperor to adopt Christianity was Constantine who was born 280 years after the birth of Christ.
I’m no biblical scholar, don’t claim to know a whole lot about Christianity, but what took place in those two hundred years to make Christianity into the religion it became? We hardly think of it as a warlike religion, but growing up leftists never failed to argue how many people died because of Christianity. In those two hundred years, men found a way to meme Christianity into the world. We remember Jesus Christ as a miracle man, what’s reality? We question the history of two hundred years ago all the time and understand that “history is written by the victors.”
The god of the new warrior religion may have already walked this earth, he just hasn’t been memed into immortality yet. A hundred years from now, Adolf Hitler may become the new Jesus Christ when Latinx gangbangers are fighting US trans bulldyke battalions in Rome and are saved by flying saucer with swastika and SS bolts painted on it. General Santiago will claim Hitler saved his unit that day and usher in new age of crusades against lesboid infidels. Do not believe that a new warrior religion can’t take hold without adopting some old one. Leftism carries the same morality as Christianity, but they are not allied. Leftism sprang forth from the corpse of Christianity.
On the Nature of the Gods
Ok, did enough of a tangent on the viability of new gods. What is the nature of gods in a warrior religion? For the Greeks, the Olympians were a new order who replaced the Titans, perhaps the blood memories of the conquests of the sea peoples. Zeus hardly has the moral goodness of a Christian. He was a bedder of womans, a player sky father. What’s interesting is how the Greeks perceived Ares, their God of War. He was detested though the Greeks themselves were savages compared to their Persian counterparts.
Contrast how the Greeks thought about Ares with how the Romans thought about Mars. Mars was revered and dignified by the Romans. There is rite called devotio where the Roman General would sacrifice himself to Mars so the God of War would lead his army to victory. Can you imagine American General doing something like this? What’s important to remember how the gods is they aren’t there to be prayed too, especially in some warrior religion. The Roman had a saying, “I give, so that you may give.” In was contractual agreement between the Romans and their gods.
You must remember the gods aren’t here to be of service to you. They have their own ends that we mortals cannot understand. Crom, the god of Conan the Barbarian, is good example of this. Crom doesn’t care about his disciples, he only cares about the best, the winners. Conan comments that he never prays to Crom, because Crom doesn’t answer prayers, he sends dooms. Dooms to make you stronger or kill you. The gods are much the same. They may see men as a vessel to forward their goals, but it’s unlikely they see themselves as some father figure to mankind.
There’s also gods like Thor, who you don’t pray to. The only way you’ll get the help of Thor is if you join his gang. Make yourself a man of war, embrace the values of Thor, and he may aid you. Odin’s path is more mysterious. He was the god of untrustworthy dealings and is often found in the shadows. He’s not the benevolent god neo pagans want you to believe he is.
The gods are aspects of human nature.
In what form the gods reveal themselves to the warrior religion is yet to be known. It may be more important to first figure out how to survive the storm and perhaps, the gods will reveal themselves if the disciples are to become a chosen people. Faith and devotion are necessary however, to the human condition. Those without it set themselves up for a hard life with no shining light to sail to. Personally, I’m attached to the idea presented by comparative mythology. There was one pantheon of gods who became many gods as Indo-Europeans spread out across Europe and beyond(check out Dumezil if interested).
Thor/Perun/Indra are the same god. As peoples split apart, their ancestors remembered the stories about the gods differently which is why you can draw similarities between Heracles and Thor. Mars was originally a thundering god for the Romans before they adopted the Greek pantheon. The old pagan gods have been in our history for a long time and I see Christianity as a subversion of this old order. The mythology of our ancestors however, tell many tales of one order of gods overthrowing another. There is a warrior god out there who can help the disciples of the warrior religion, it’s a matter of gaining his allegiance.
What is lacking is a prophet, a man chosen by the gods to save our people. Will such a man come? Maybe, maybe not, which is why in this series on warrior religions, I’ve chosen to talk more about the CULTURE of a martial people and continue to do so. There is still much work to be done. What have you done to make yourself more warlike today? What have you done to get the attention of the gods?
