Race is a genetic reality. My fathers family helped settle Smith County Texas. They fought in the revolution, the civil war, and settled Texas with other closely related families. Most of my Texan family are Scots from North Carolina, who came over from Scotland together. MacMillans, Walkers, Blues, Camerons, and many others who were all related going back to Scotland, and kept living together and having kids in America.
The genetic studies on Americans shows we haven't gone through a clean ethnogenesis. There are different households in each state with different views on what it means to be a Texan, a Georgian, or even an American. This is because we have different lines, and different experiences here.
The reason we could all come together in the first is place is because we share much more ancient common lines. Again, race is genetic, not social.
